MADISON (WKOW) — Anyone who’s done it will tell you buying a home is a process, but a free class can make it a little easier if it’s your first time.  Affording the American Dream isn’t out of reach.

Those unsure of what they’re getting into can get take part in the GreenPath Sponsored Home Buyers Roundtable Workshop. It’s a two-part class with education on a host of topics.

City of Madison Grant Administrator Linette Rhodes says those attending get a great crash-course in all things related to home ownership. And she says they don’t just skim the surface, it helps those just beginning the process to those closing the deal.

“We go through the whole process of budgeting, how to get a loan, how to work with your realtor, what to expect at closing.”

Classes meet at the Project Home Training Center on the city’s East-side fairly regularly. Rhodes says while the instructors vary, the lessons do not.

In fact, she says most working to finance their start-homes qualify for some sort of assistance.

“Not only do we have direct down payment assistance here in Dane County in the form of differed loans, but we have many non-profits that offer affordable housing,” Rhodes added.
