Bankruptcy Counseling & Education
Bankruptcy can offer a fresh financial start for people who have a large amount of debt and can no longer pay their bills. It is, however, designed to be the option of last resort. If you are considering bankruptcy, a free GreenPath debt counseling session can help you determine whether or not there might be a better way to solve your financial concerns and begin rebuilding your financial future.
If bankruptcy is the best solution for you, GreenPath can help.
The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, signed into law on April 20, 2005, requires all Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy petitioners to provide the court with a certificate of completion of an approved credit counseling session from a U.S Trustee-approved non-profit credit counseling agency. The law also requires all consumers who file for bankruptcy to obtain a bankruptcy education certificate prior to having their debts discharged.
GreenPath was one of the first credit counseling agencies to be approved by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees to issue bankruptcy counseling and bankruptcy education certificates in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of GreenPath’s services.
GreenPath provides both services over the phone or through the Internet. Counseling is also available in-person.
