I filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy about four years ago. Now I feel like it's a black cloud hanging over my head because I'm having a lot of trouble getting credit. How long will the bankruptcy information stay on my credit report?
Chapter 7 bankruptcy information remains on your credit report for 10 years from the date filed. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is build a positive payment history by making your bill payments on time each month.

Two years ago I filed Chapter 13. I'm regretting it now, because I don't think I will be able to buy a home. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?
Since you filed a Chapter 13 instead of a Chapter 7, you may possibly still be able to obtain a home loan. But you will most likely need to make a larger down payment and will have to pay a higher interest rate. The most important thing you can do is to faithfully stay current on all your bills. As time passes, you are slowly rebuilding a positive credit history by staying current and following the repayment plan laid out for you in your Chapter 13.
